In the past 27 years of treating the amazing children in our area, we have observed that approximately 8 out of 10 kids that we see evaluated are dealing with difficult dental situations, such as issues with skeletal growth, breathing, speech, airway, tooth development, etc. that cause significant complexity in treatment versus the non-invasive, easy approach of early intervention.
In the past, our team has worked diligently to increase awareness through interdisciplinary education and encouraging early complimentary evaluations of children at the recommended age of 7 to screen for issues that can be resolved early on. However, we continue to see a distressing number of adolescents with difficult cases that could have benefited from early intervention.
As a result, we have created our SMILE 7 BECAUSE 8 IS TOO LATE CAMPAIGN to increase awareness directly to our community and their families to educate about the importance and ease of evaluating our children at age 7. We have worked determinedly to find a way to accommodate the busy schedules of our families while also making sure our children can be screened.
